Nine unique vehicles have been lovingly restored to their former glory for the 30th anniversary of the Veteran Car Club of Viterbo: from engine to bodywork, from chrome to carpeting, from velvet to leather, right down to the golden embroidery of the interiors. The leading vintage car club in central Italy, affiliated with ASI, is presenting— for the first time—an exhibition in partnership with the Municipality of Viterbo to showcase the Vatican’s automotive splendor from May 24 to 26.
At Piazza San Lorenzo, beside the Papal Palace, visitors can examine in meticulous detail part of one of the world’s largest collections of American automobiles. These are the finest cars once made available to foreign delegations visiting the reigning Pontiffs—from Pius XI through Pope Paul VI. Models from Buick, Cadillac, and Checker not only represent automotive excellence but also reflect the pivotal political events they witnessed: World War II, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Second Vatican Council, and more.
